Director of Human Resources (FT) - Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County (HSVB)
Salary: $80,000 – 95,000 annually
Job Summary:
The Human Resources Director will plan, lead, direct, develop, and coordinate the policies, activities, and staff of the Human Resource (HR) department, ensuring legal compliance and implementation of the organization’s talent strategy. Work closely with the HR Manager to oversee performance reviews and discover talented job candidates. Review employee data, investigate employee complaints, and manage the creation of new HR programs for implementation across the organization.
The HR Director serves as a leader in the workplace by creating a welcoming and inclusive environment. You will help the organization achieve goals and strategies that improve our employees and help the organization function better. This position reports to the CEO and supervises the HR Manager position.
Responsibilities:
· Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff.
· Ensure our hiring, onboarding, and management procedures are effective for diverse groups.
· Manage the onboarding and orientation processes for new employees
· Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
· Develops, recommends, and implements human resources policies and procedures, and updates, prepares, and maintains a handbook on policies and procedures.
· Manage the payroll system.
· Mediates and suggests solutions to employee disputes.
· Promote a culture of open communication and teamwork.
· Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations.
· Compile information about compensation and benefits packages based on market data.
· Direct and handle workers' compensation program.
· Develops and maintains files and other records, reports, and logs to conform to EEO regulations.
· Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations.
Job Requirements and Qualifications:
· SHRM or HRCI Certification required.
· Bachelor’s Degree in HR or related field.
· Five + years of successful experience in a nonprofit setting.
· Outstanding strategic, communications, and interpersonal skills.
· Goal-driven with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Maturity and confidence in dealing with internal leaders and external stakeholders.
· Critical thinking skills and focus on consistent process improvement.
· Flexibility with work schedule in support of events and deadlines.
· Commitment to ongoing learning and growth.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is required to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time, as well as move and traverse within the shelter facility for extended periods of time, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is required to communicate, converse with, convey information to, express oneself, and exchange information with shelter staff and the general public.
