    CUSTODIAL/GROUNDS STAFF – Full Time


     

    Terms of Employment: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, day and afternoon shifts may be available.

    Classification: Teamsters

    Hourly Wage: Starting wage $15.50; Wage increases to $16.00 after successful completion of the probationary period.

    FLSA Status: Non-Exempt/Hourly

    JOB SUMMARY: This Custodial/Grounds Staff position is responsible for building and grounds custodial functions required for the routine cleaning and upkeep of buildings and surrounding landscaping.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Performs housekeeping functions for campus rooms and buildings such as dusting, vacuuming, washing floors, disinfecting, and cleaning fixtures and surfaces, replenishing supplies, removal of trash and recyclable materials, washing walls/windows, shampooing carpets/refinishing floors as assigned.
    • Assists with maintenance of campus grounds. Duties may include trash removal, sweeping, shoveling snow, applying deicer, exterior window washing, trimming of bushes/trees, applying mulch, and light-duty repairs. Duties may include the use of plows, snow blowers, and gators after applicable training.
    • Moves furniture, supplies, and miscellaneous equipment as directed.
    • Inspects exterior and interior of buildings for broken, damaged, misused, inoperative items/property needing repair, reporting all findings to supervisor.
    • Contacts emergency responders, as necessary, relating to potential building/campus hazards or damage. Performs emergency response service for water/non-hazardous spills as appropriate.
    • Observes college policies/procedures and safety rules; takes appropriate safety precautions and maintains clean work/storage areas, cleans equipment after use.
    • Assist with the securing of facility assets and building lockup when needed.
    • Additional responsibilities may include forklift or truck operation, key cutting, and pulling trailers once trained.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.


    SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Under the supervision of the Manager, Physical Plant.


    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Associate degree preferred. Experience in related area required.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Have and maintain valid Michigan driver’s license; ability to drive and operate vans and 4x4 pickup trucks, snow and ice removal equipment, grounds keeping power equipment, and a forklift as assigned.
    • Ability to operate hand and power tools and custodial cleaning equipment.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb and work from ladders, walk throughout campus, and climb stairs on a regular basis.
    • Ability to read and interpret instructions, service orders, and chemical supply labels.
    • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal.
    • Customer service oriented with ability to work collaboratively with coworkers, staff, and faculty at all levels.
    • Highly motivated; possesses critical thinking and time management skills; ability to complete a sequence of tasks timely and within provided deadlines.
