Job Summary


 

The District Marketing and Communications (MarComm) department is seeking a savvy, self-starter to join us as our Social Media Manager! In this role, you’ll leverage your love for all things digital to oversee various social media channels including MCCCD’s Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, and YouTube. This position will collaborate with the District MarComm team to develop and implement social media strategies. In addition, you will be responsible for creating high-quality, engaging, and shareable digital content to enhance MCCCD’s online presence. The ideal candidate is a creative thinker, collaborator, and communicator who will take initiative and utilize their deep knowledge of content development, creation, and analytics to highlight the system's 10 colleges and strategic priorities in new and innovative ways across social media.

Required Additional Application Instructions: Please provide a minimum of four professional samples of your original social media work with your application including social media copy and graphics. An online portfolio that contains samples is acceptable. Samples can be submitted as attachments or as links within an attachment.

Essential Functions


 

35% – Content Development: Concept, develop, ideate, and produce digital social media content to increase brand awareness and community engagement across MCCCD’s social media channels including X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube. Drafts clear, concise, and compelling social media posts, verifying content for accuracy and consistent brand messaging. Works with the MarComm team to develop and implement social media strategy. Stay abreast of social media best practices, influencers and thought leaders, platform updates, and new features to identify and capitalize on social media moments and trends.

35% – Content Creation: Designs, captures, edits, and creates social media assets including graphics, photos/stills, and videos for social media channels. Leverages online tools including Adobe Creative Suite and Canva to create content that resonates with MCCCD’s key audiences including students, thought leaders, employees, community, and industry partners. Provides asset management, including organizing and storing digital files and social media toolkits.

15% – Content Management: Schedules and posts social media content using native tools and scheduling applications. Manages a robust daily, weekly, and monthly social media content calendar to ensure a consistent posting schedule across all platforms, aligning content with department and system priorities. Uses social media analytics and audience research to track and monitor content performance, developing creative campaigns to drive actionable insight and optimize content strategies.

15% – Collaboration: Collaborates with College PR Marketing teams to attend and capture content during onsite events and activities, helping amplify college-specific stories on a systemwide level. Works to create social media toolkits and guidance for college PR Marketing teams for major announcements, holidays and observances, new partnerships, etc. Attends District events including convocations, graduations, government/partner/industry site visits, capturing and posting social media content including video and photo/stills in real-time. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications


 

Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in public relations, marketing, journalism or related field and four years of advanced journey level experience in developing, planning and implementing public relations and marketing activities, projects, and campaigns.

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered
