Postdoctoral researcher focused on access to care, economic hardship and financial toxicity, and cost- effectiveness of interventions to improve health in chronic disease patients with cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.
Dr. Maria Pisu's lab is seeking a full-time postdoctoral fellow to carry out collaborative, interdisciplinary research focused on access to care, economic hardship and financial toxicity, and cost- effectiveness of interventions to improve health in chronic disease patients. Currently, this research focuses on cancer and on Alzheimer’s disease. The postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to work on multiple completed and ongoing NIH-funded projects, to analyze qualitative and quantitative data, to write and lead manuscripts, and also to assist with writing and submitting NIH grants.The postdoctoral fellow will be encouraged to build a foundation for their independent line of research with support for grant submissions, publications, and career development activities. The fellowship will provide experience in project management as well as opportunities for applying for pilot funding and for collaborating with community-based, non-academic partners.The postdoctoral fellow will have access to the stellar research training environment at UAB, including but not limited to the NCI-funded Center for Cancer Control in Persistent Poverty Areas, the Minority Health & Health Equity Research Center, the Alzheimer’s Disease Center, and numerous other university-wide centers.

Qualifications
Eligible candidates will have:

Earned a doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, DrPH, or equivalent terminal degree) in behavioral/social sciences (e.g., sociology), public health, health economics, or a related field.

Evidence of scholarly productivity (e.g., peer-reviewed publications, scientific presentations).

Demonstrated interest in developing research skills and goals for pursuing a research- intensive academic career.

Excellent writing and oral communication skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team.

High level of effective time management and personal initiative.

Strong quantitative and/or qualitative research Methodological training and/or experience in conducting cost effectiveness research is also desirable.
