Job Description

Under the direction of the Breast Medical Oncologist or Breast Oncologic Surgeon, the Advanced Practice Provider provides primary medical management for breast medical and surgical oncology patients. Leads by example, demonstrating professional image and leadership core competencies. Acts as a liaison within the team to promote consistent medical management of the patients across the health care continuum by collaborating with the multidisciplinary care team. Presents patient cases during team meetings. Provides patient/family and staff education. Supports the development and revision of divisional policies and procedures. Participates in and/or initiates research. Participates in community outreach and networking with community physicians and other health care professionals. May provide care to benign or malignant hematology/oncology patients in the outpatient oncology and infusion center. Develops and expands the role responsibilities as patient and system needs change. Other duties assigned as needed.

Must be a graduate from a physician assistant program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
Current State of California Physician Assistant (PA) license.
Current Physician Assistant Certification from NCCPA.
BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within 6 months of hire date.
DEA Registration Certificate. Must have successfully completed or commit to complete within 6 months of hire the Controlled Substance Education Course by the California Academy of Physician Assistants.
Minimum two (2) years experience of recent PA experience in Surgical Oncology.
Ability to understand the medical as well as psych-social needs of a patient population with cancer.
Demonstrated experience performing initial history and physical examination; identifying major medical problems, and formulating appropriate plans of action.
Demonstrated experience performing diagnostic tests, exams, procedures used in adult medicine. Knowledge of the purpose of these tests and infection control mechanisms.
Demonstrated experience providing patient education and counseling and developing and implementing long and short range treatment plans. Comfortable in a group teaching setting.
Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with diverse population, including professional and non-professional staff. Demonstration of a high level of professionalism and excellent communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills in order to rapidly prioritize activities in a high-volume, dynamic, multiple demand hospital setting.
Demonstrated strong computer skills and knowledge of PCIS/Epic for retrieval of patient data (computer skills required; PCIS/Epic preferred).
Proficiency in documentation of patient conditions and outcomes.
Demonstrated critical thinking skills and experience independently solving problems and making recommendations.
Demonstrated knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT codes for diagnoses and procedures.
Exhibits willingness to develop and expand role responsibilities as patient and system needs change.
Ability to function as part of an interdisciplinary team. Demonstrated leadership skills with ability to motivate team members.
Two or more years of licensed work experience as a Physician Assistant in Surgical Oncology.
Women's Health experience.
Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call and locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs.
Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment.
Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years gained through school or work experience.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $153,259 - $201,889 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $73.40 - $96.69
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
