The mission of the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid is to deliver a quality, affordable education to all students, regardless of their financial circumstances. The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid administers a comprehensive array of programs (need and merit-based) to more than 22,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students annually, committing and disbursing in excess of $350 million per year.

Essential Job Duties

The Associate Director position is expected to perform at the highest level of professional service and financial aid and scholarship expertise. This individual is expected to independently implement the vision of the Director and the office work plan through office procedures and operations. They manage professional and support staff toward the accomplishment of office, institutional and professional development objectives. In doing so, they are vested with the authority to commit institutional resources toward the execution of the processes for which they are responsible. They share responsibility for communicating with external agencies including state and federal auditors, and campus administrators and faculty.

Associate Directors maintain leadership and responsibility for major operations of the department (e.g. information technology, application processing, counseling and advising, scholarships). The Associate Director will be assigned responsibility for the following major functions:

  • Scholarship Management – provides leadership for a team of professionals dedicated to scholarship management and administration; administers university wide scholarship programs; serves as a liaison to advise university constituents on best practices and problem resolution as it related to scholarship administration, fund management and donor relations.
  • Compliance – performs a monthly evaluation of over awards and coordinates resolution with staff.

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform data collection, research and policy analysis involving scholarships and financial aid programs.
  • Share in examining financial aid functional processes and utilize PeopleSoft/Oracle Financial Aid expertise to advise technical staff of functional requirements.
  • Evaluate systems, make recommendations and take action to ensure compliance with Title IV and other regulatory requirements.
  • Interact with audit personnel to collect and present data to bring successful resolution to inquiries.
  • Act as a liaison with organizations on campus in a way that fosters communication and project success.
  • Represent the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid on university-wide committees and in projects related to scholarships and financial aid.
  • Train, supervise and develop 5 professional staff with responsibility within the scope of this position’s leadership role.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of two years of current, professional, higher education financial aid administration experience.

Other Required Qualifications

In some cases, individuals may possess an unusual aptitude for this level of responsibility and may lack one or more of the below requirements. Nonetheless, each of the following requirements is expected of the overwhelming majority of successful candidates:

  • Evidence of familiarity with university academic policies.
  • Skill in data collection and presentation.
  • Skill in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access and other products used for data collection and presentation.
  • Skill in problem solving, technical troubleshooting, decision-making and prioritization.
  • Prior staff supervision experience and demonstration of superior management and sound decision making ability.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of seven years of current, professional, higher education financial aid administration experience.
  • Knowledge and of PeopleSoft 8.9 or above including expertise in query and reporting tools.
