The Membership Team is focused on enhancing AILA’s membership experience by providing outstanding service and ensuring the continued value of membership. This team drives member recruitment, retention, and engagement, collaborating across departments to align membership offerings with the organization’s strategic goals. By offering tailored support, resources, and fostering a vibrant community, the team works to enhance member value and contribute to the organization’s success.
The Role
The Member Engagement Manager works collaboratively across teams and supports the Membership department’s efforts to boost member engagement and improve member renewal rates. The Member Engagement Manager is primarily responsible for managing AILA’s member engagement-related Committees and Interest Groups, overseeing the Association’s recently launched AILA Affiliated Paralegals program, and supporting ongoing member engagement efforts. The Member Engagement Manager is a detail-oriented self-starter who can oversee multiple priorities simultaneously. They provide exceptional member service to current members with the ability to effectively communicate AILA’s values and goals.
The Member Engagement Manager plays a pivotal role in driving membership engagement, retention, and volunteer participation across AILA.
Essential Job Functions
Member Engagement Strategy
- Collaborate with Membership and Marketing teams to develop strategies aimed at improving member retention, engagement and satisfaction
- Assist with in-person engagement opportunities at AILA conferences
- Collaborate with AILA’s components to provide member benefit related resources aimed at increasing awareness and engagement at the local level
Membership Feedback and Reporting
- Track member engagement and participation metrics, providing feedback to leadership for strategy refinement
- Assist with the creation, implementation and evaluation of member focused surveys to identify engagement and retention opportunities
COMMITTEE AND INTEREST GROUP MANAGEMENT (30%)
- Manage the coordination and support of assigned member-led committees and interest groups?
- Ensure committees are meeting regularly, staying on track with goals, and have the support they need to succeed
- Facilitate communication between member and volunteer groups and AILA’s National Office to ensure alignment of activities
AILA Affiliated Paralegals (AAP) program (20%)
- Collaborate with Membership and Marketing to support the recruitment, engagement and retention efforts for the AAP program?
- Work cross-departmentally to ensure the program is providing the benefits and resources needed?
- Identify opportunities to incorporate AAP messaging into member recruitment and retention efforts?
- Serve as the staff liaison for program related volunteers
- Bachelor’s degree or related experience in an association or other non-profit setting
- Five to seven (5-7) years of experience in a membership engagement, or similar role, for an association or non-profit
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with members and volunteers
- Understanding of membership lifecycle and general membership principles
- Experience managing volunteers
- Project management capabilities with the ability to oversee multiple initiatives simultaneously
- Proficiency in membership management systems and Microsoft Office Suite
Travel may be required occasionally related to job responsibilities, especially for the annual conference or other association conferences. Ability to participate if needed in the AILA annual conference in June is a job requirement. The annual conference is held in varying cities.
This role operates in a fully remote work environment, allowing employees to perform their responsibilities from their preferred location. Success in this position requires a reliable internet connection, access to necessary technology, and a dedicated workspace free from distractions. The role emphasizes collaboration through virtual communication tools such as video conferencing, email, and project management platforms. While working independently is essential, the position also involves active engagement with team members to maintain a cohesive and productive virtual workplace culture. The role is primarily sedentary, involving extended periods working in front of a computer screen.
