We are looking for a dynamic and creative communications professional with a well-rounded skill set–including digital media and some graphic design–to join the Institute for Social Concerns in our mission to grow justice, rooted in the common good. The Communications Program Director will work under an Assistant Director at the Institute and working closely with Institute leadership, will undertake the development and implementation of an Institute-wide communications strategy that informs and engages institute constituencies on and off campus and forwards the Institute’s mission. The position will also be responsible for implementing the day-to-day strategy across various media, and for creating the written and visual communications materials core to this strategy. (Note that an additional writer will support this work as well.) The position will also be responsible for maintaining Institute and University brand standards along with high standards of creativity, quality, accuracy, timeliness, and design; designing, implementing, and updating social media strategy on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and other social networking sites to keep communication current, accurate, and engaging for social media users; enhancing connections and engagement with alumni; and editing video for use on social media and in stewardship efforts.

We seek an energized colleague, capable of following through on multiple simultaneous projects, and able to work collaboratively to enhance the ability of the Institute to tell its story and forward its mission.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Some communication, design, and/or marketing experience. 
  • Training and/or experience with appropriate software including web and graphic design skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in communications, ideally in a higher education environment.

  • Knowledge and understanding of printing processes and terms; web publishing software and basic HTML code for formatting basic web pages; email campaign software (Constant Contact, Mailchimp, Emma, or similar software); Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator or similar software to generate promotional designs.

  • Writing/editing/proofreading experience, preferably with the Chicago Manual of Style

  • Working knowledge of Google Suite applications and database management skills.

  • Strong organization, problem-solving skills, and critical-thinking skills including knowing when to elevate to the next level.

  • Must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects and to prioritize activities in response to changing circumstances and on-going deadlines.
