Position Summary

Big Bend Community College, a rural college serving vibrant, culturally rich communities in the Columbia Basin of Central Washington, invites applications for an Outreach and Recruitment Coordinator in the college's Outreach Department. There are two (2) positions available. These positions are full-time, overtime eligible and are funded through a combination of grants and contracts.

The Outreach and Recruitment Coordinator works with other Big Bend Community College (BBCC) staff to lead the development and implementation of outreach and recruitment across the entire BBCC service district. The successful candidate will be able to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and will be prepared to support their work by maintaining a flexible schedule to include the potential for evening and weekend events as well as travel throughout the service district.

Essential Job Duties

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:

Primary essential duties and responsibilities include but will not be limited to the following:

  • In collaboration with other campus departments and the Dean of Student Services identify departmental and program outreach and recruitment needs.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a culturally appropriate student recruitment and outreach program, with particular attention to communities of color, students with disabilities, and low-income communities.
  • Recruit students from high schools and communities within the college’s service district. This includes making regular visits to high schools and communities in the BBCC service district to meet with potential students.
  • Make outreach and recruitment presentations to high school students and other potential student groups in the community to help them understand educational opportunities available at BBCC.
  • Explain and guide potential students and their family members through the college’s new-student intake process including admission application, placement, navigating financial aid applications, and completing the new student orientation.
  • Follow-up with prospective students and others who express interest in learning more about BBCC programs and offerings
  • Connect incoming students with student supports and services such as Workforce Education Services and TRIO Student Support Services.
  • Maintain an outreach and recruitment tracking system in accordance with enrollment management efforts in the BBCC Strategic Plan.
  • Serve as the co-lead for college outreach and recruitment initiatives and activities. This includes managing the outreach events calendar, planning and developing campus promotional materials, helping to coordinate campus tours, and implementing outreach events and meetings.
  • Provide information to area high school counselors, prospective students, their families, and the public about BBCC programs, degrees and certificates
  • Support efforts toward enhancing dual enrollment programs (e.g., College in the High School, CTE Dual Credit and Running Start).
  • Plan and implement Running Start information sessions and workshops for prospective students and family members, the general public, partner organizations, and the campus community to provide information regarding admission and registration processes.
  • Maintain and submit monthly and annual reports as requested.
  • Participate in BBCC and community events to identify students and share BBCC information to the public.
  • Develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships with staff, students, parents, faculty, and external contacts.
  • In conjunction with the Public Information Office, Word Services, faculty, and other key campus departments, support the development and dissemination of marketing materials in print and online.
  • Represent the college at professional and community organizations and events.
  • Participate in related professional conferences and in-service activities.
  • Participate in college governance and serve on college committees as directed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a nationally accredited institution of higher education.
  • One-year experience working with first generation college students, diverse student populations, and/or within programs that support individuals from historically under-represented backgrounds.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to travel throughout the BBCC service district on a flexible schedule.
  • Experience or participation with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical, and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency.
  • Familiarity with Big Bend’s service district and student populations.
  • Experience assisting individuals in admissions, enrollment and financial aid processes.
  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, including a demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate, interact, and develop partnerships.
  • Able to effectively present information to both individuals and groups.
  • Energetic, self-motivated, and results-oriented; ability to work with limited supervision.
