SUMMARYProvide the expertise and knowledge that support the college curriculum and programs. Establish courses following accepted higher education standards, teach students using a variety of effective methodologies and provide engagement and support activities that encourage student learning. The role of the Instructional Faculty encompasses teaching and learning, academic advising, professional development and institutional and community service.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties  may be assigned.

 

Teach assigned courses at the designated time and location(s), including theory and clinical skills.

 

Oversee and assist students. Follow departmental curriculum and the use of approved materials that are endorsed by the department.

Attend required pre-service and in-service meetings. Maintain required class attendance and grades records.

 

Turn in class records (roll sheets, grade sheets and other records as required by the specific program) by specified deadlines.

 

Distribute certificates to students and meet with individual students to make appropriate recommendations for subsequent courses.

 

Consult with Program Manager about any unusual academic or discipline related issues in the classroom. 

 

Periodically meet with Program Manager to review student evaluation forms and classroom observation forms.

 

Use departmental equipment responsibly and return department-issued textbooks and material as request by Program Manager.

 

Maintain current skills and knowledge in the health information field.

 

Auxiliary Tasks: Interview, counsel and provide orientation to potential students as required. Participate in program related surveys, research and staff development activities. Be available to help the department with program marketing or public relations event. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

 

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION

High school diploma or GED required. AAS or Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Industry certifications preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE

36 months work experience in the field required

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of medical billing and coding principles and theory

 

Ability to communicate with others from various backgrounds and experience levels Ability to take complex information and present it in a simplified manner

Possess the ability to work in a diverse work environment

 

Willing and able to teach day, evening or weekend classes at a number of sites around the city

 

Knowledge and skill in a variety of computer usage and software are required

 

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse professional, community, and student population

 

Possess good organizational and planning skills

 

Demonstrate sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.

 

Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate students in a learning-centered environment

 

Self-disciplined and able to effectively manage others
