Learning Resource Center Specialist

Job Description

The Learning Resource Center Specialist is responsible for the operational oversight of the Learning Resource Center. The Specialist will assist in providing an independent learning environment while ensuring library and educational resources and support services to students, faculty, staff, and community patrons. The Specialist will support all Center users by providing customer service and administrative support for the Childersburg campus and Talladega Center.

Note: The position will be based in Childersburg, but will be required to travel and serve the Talladega location on routine basis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Adheres to the policies, rules and standards of Central Alabama Community College,Alabama Community College System, accrediting agencies and federal regulatory bodies.
  • Ensures institutional compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Ensures an effective operation and promotion of the Learning Resource Center including the resources, services and facility use it has to offer.
  • Displays a commitment to meeting the individual needs of each student, to respect diversity and foster good relations.
  • Assists in the collection, development, and monitoring (issuing and returning) of resources.
  • Markets the Learning Resource Center services effectively to students, faculty, and staff using various different methods.
  • Assists students with inquiries (including finding information via online resources) and problems relating to their use of the IT equipment and software; coordinate with IT technicians if appropriate.
  • Coordinates student laptop distribution process for Childersburg and Talladega locations.
  • Issues audio-visual materials to students and assisting with audio-visual equipment as necessary.
  • Checks library materials in/out and renews materials.
  • Guides users through library databases and online catalogs to find relevant information.
  • Troubleshoots issues related to accessing digital library resources or online platforms.
  • Provides references service for both print and electronic materials.
  • Assists with maintaining order and enforcing rules in the learning center.
  • Periodically checks computer for inappropriate downloads and clears saved documents.
  • Places and removes library holds in Banner system.
  • Maintains appropriate records and compiles reports as requested.
  • Completes inventory for the learning center as assigned.
  • Participates in CACC Connect, student orientation sessions, as assigned.
  • Retrieves, sorts, and routes all learning resource center mail appropriately; coordinates as necessary with main campus library.
  • Participates in library organization workshops and conferences as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned that pertain to this position as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Education or Liberal Arts related field is required.
  • Experience working with the public is required.
  • Computer literacy is required.
  • Ability to travel is required.
  • Must have knowledge of general business practices and be able to work successfully in a team environment is required.
  • Must have general knowledge of computer equipment and computer operations, including the use of the Microsoft Office suite of programs is required.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills, including the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing is required.
  • Experience in supervising students in an educational setting is preferred.
  • Library instruction experience in an academic library is preferred.
  • Experience providing library services in a distance education environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of current copyright laws related to libraries and higher education is preferred.
  • Experience working with the Alabama Virtual Library is preferred.

Sick Leave
All regular full-time non-instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is the equivalent of 8 hours of sick leave per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. All regular full-time non-instructional staff earns up to two (2) regularly scheduled workdays of personal leave per leave year.
Unused Personal Leave converts to sick leave if not used.

Professional Leave
Up to 10 days a year of professional development leave with pay may be granted by the President.

Retirement
The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA. The TRS is a defined benefit plan qualified under Section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. All regular full-time and part-time employees (non-temporary and non- student) who work at least 20 hours per week are required to participate in The Teachers' Retirement System of Alabama.
Tier I - Pays 7.50% monthly. State matches 13.57% (effective 10/01/24)
Tier II – Pays 6.20% monthly. State matches 12.60% (effective 10/01/24)
Law Enforcement Officers:

Health Insurance
PEEHIP, established in 1983, provides health insurance benefits for active and retired education employees and is governed by the PEEHIP Board of Control.
